CAMPTON TOWNSHIP OPEN SPACE PLAN

ENABLEMENT

This Open Space Plan is prepared in accordance with the Township Open Space Act, Public Act 88-62, Article 115, effective Jan. 1, 1994 and Public Act 88-670, Art. 3, 3-27, effective December 2, 1994, as amended by Public Act 91-641, effective August 20, 1999 and as amended by Public Act 91-0847, effective June 22, 2000.

In May of 2000, the Campton Township Supervisor Edward Malek appointed an advisory committee to study the creation of an Open Space program for the Township. The purpose of the committee was first to identify whether the community was interested and supportive of establishing an Open Space Program and, if interested, to understand the legal requirements and set in motion the procedure to develop an Open Space Plan and Program for the Township.

On July 11, 2000 petitions were filed with the Clerk of Campton Township consisting of the signatures of 932 registered voters, exceeding the five percent (5%) of total registered voters within the Township1   required by the Township Open Space Act. (See p. 3). These Petitions requested the Township Board of Trustees to begin preparation of a proposed Open Space Plan for submission to the voters of the Township. (See p. 26).

At the Campton Township Board of Trustees' July 11, 2000 meeting, based on the Petitions filed with the Township Clerk, the Township Board authorized the Committee to formulate a proposed Open Space Plan and report back to the Town Board prior to a Public Hearing on the Plan to be set within 60 days prior to the Town Board's November meeting. (See p. 4)

The efforts of the Advisory Committee are reflected in the Proposed Open Space Plan contained herein.

1 As of July 11, 2000, there were 8,269 registered voters according the Kane County Clerk's office and 5 percent of said number is equivalent to 414 voters.
