Call Us to Reserve A Viewing Appointment For You or Your Group

Restoration partially funded by a Kane County Riverboat Fund grant on the foundation, exterior, and interior of the historic 1874 Campton Township Town Hall has been completed.  Volunteers have created educational exhibits for school groups, civic organizations, and interested citizens.

At this time the building will be open, by appointment only, with 24 hour advance notice.   Interested visitors should contact Campton Township, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm, at 630-387-1016.

The Township is looking for volunteer docents to staff Town Hall.   They are also asking residents who may have historical items or photographs that would be pertinent to the history of Campton Township or Kane County to contact the Township.

Campton Township Adds Gray Willows Farm as Open Space

208 Acres Located on LaFox Road and Corron Road

Campton Township has purchased Gray Willows Farm as part of the Open Space Program. The 208-acre property will now be protected from development and preserved for future generations. It brings the total Campton Township Open Space land to 1,334 acres.

When Campton Township voters approved the original Open Space Program 11 years ago, Gray Willows Farm topped the original "wish list" of properties. The land combines woods, meadows, savannahs, creeks, and forested wetlands, as well as farmland and historic buildings. And when Campton residents voted to expand and continue the Township's Open Space Program in 2005, Gray Willows Farm remained a prime property for the Township to acquire and preserve.

Long thought unattainable due to its desirability and developers' interest in the property, the purchase of Gray Willows Farm was made possible through timing, ingenuity, and frugal management of the Township's Open Space funds. In March 2010, the Township completed the Gray Willows Farm purchase for $7 million, roughly $33,000 per acre. With its 175-year-old trees, rolling country landscape, and pastoral

atmosphere, Gray Willows is "one of the capstone achievements of our Open Space Program," as Township Supervisor John Kupar puts it.

The Township plans public hiking paths, picnic areas, and a variety of passive uses for the land. Public input will also be sought as Gray Willows Farm becomes a Campton Township centerpiece. As Supervisor Kupar has said, "This represents the crowning achievement of our Open Space Program."

Corron Farm

Township Supervisor John Kupar and Eagle Scout Bobby Steiner

The Township is pleased to honor Boy Scout Bobby Steiner, who earned his Eagle Scout badge for a Campton Open Space Volunteer project.

Bobby created a wood chip trail at Corron Farm that stretches from the parking lot well into the property.

Bobby was honored at a Town Board meeting for his work and his spirit of volunteerism. We thank him for giving our community this beautiful new trail, and for contributing to the continuing heritage of Corron Farm.
